The Design Kids Presents: The Great Side Project

With the 7th week in lockdown on our doorsteps it's not uncommon to feel as though your creative juices are wearing thin. So this month we're focussing on an event which will relight that spark. Whether you’re looking for your next side project, or you have an idea and want to know how to get started, we’re covering all the basics. We’ll also be talking about the pressure many of us feel trying to use our time productively during isolation, how creativity has been impacted by the global shut down and how community can refresh and motivate us.

Reaching for Resilience in the Time of Covid-19

by Brian LaRossa

“On my birthday last weekend, my fiancé led me to his laptop, and suddenly I heard screams of “Surprise!” My friends had organized a Zoom party without me finding out—a major coup on their part. Beneath the surprise, though, lay a familiar virus-induced sadness: I didn’t realize how much I’d miss hugging these people I love.

Right before everyone sang happy birthday, my doorbell rang: the chocolate bundt cake Mom had mailed arrived right on time. I blew out the candles and looked at the screen full of people clapping, laughing, and blowing kisses. At the top left corner was my mother, smiling into her camera, looking over me.”
